"I'm.... I'm so sorry, Momo, I... I can't keep living like this! It's wrong! It's just wrong!" Tears in her eyes, the eastern unicorn fled the temple, into the sheeting rain. Brine and rain filled her vision and blurred it, and she shook her head to clear her sight. She was certain she could hear her brother calling after her, but she kept on running. She couldn't stand to be here anymore. Everything reminded her of him; The temple, the scent, the cherry trees... Everything. She needed to get away. Far away.
Her legs ached as she ran as fast and as far as they would carry her. The temple and the mountain soon fell behind, and she was running through the rice fields and the terraces of the village below. Farther. She needed to be farther away.
She began to slow down as she thundered across the bridge and into the forest. It was still to close. She had been here with him before and it hurt her. It hurt her so much. Her stomach churned as she remembered their times together here.
She had to leave this place for good. She had to be as far away from this province and any others like it as she could be.
She thundered through the forest, refusing to let anything stop her. It was several hours of her trotting and leaping fallen logs and rivers before she breached the forest into a meadow.
It was pouring rain here, too, but she could see the sun through the tops of the clouds.
With a pained wail, she raised her head to the heavens, letting the rain wash away her sins, her mistakes, letting it redeem her of her pain.
It gave her a false purity that she would hold onto as tightly as her broken heart would let her.
